What have I been doing?

Did this for
Lupus awareness!

Pet day at school. Fun!

Kindergarten graduation!

Where have I been? May was Lupus awareness month.

A post from my brother, Alex's facebook, May 17

My sister has Lupus. She's probably the only person in my family strong enough to battle through the challenges that this disease presents. I'll support her however I can. Today, I'll be wearing purple to support the Lupus Foundation of America.

You can click this link, read her voice, and show support as well (no, I'm not asking for donations). Also, read about the mysterious disease and its effects.

Don't give up, Erin!

Minky Blankets

These are Minky, a plush microfiber material that creates a super soft and luxurious feel, sewn with cotton. The lady bug blanket was embroidered for a special little girl. The other blanket was for an unborn baby boy.

Soft and snugly
The white minky was much easier to work with, but by easier, I don't in any way mean it was easy to work with. The dot was a very difficult minky. It wanted to stretch and gather. I definitely will buy the other varieties of minky in the future to use. I know I have more babies to get blankets to.

Very bright and colorful! This bumpy minky was horrible to sew. I had to actually have Aunt Sue help. She has awesome machines to work with, that is HUGE!

All finished and ready to ship!

I am very happy with the way these came out, considering it was my first time using this material. Oh and I have no real sewing experience. Just a few more youtube videos and should have a PHD in sewing - NOT!

Our house & 3 kitties

A barn that was in her head

A drawing in her "sketch" book, from Bama, of 'The Cat in the Hat'
So today I bring you the work of a 6 year old. I found these to be AMAZING, so I thought I would share with you all. I may just be bias to her work, but I think we have a future Georgia O'Keeffe here!

Kent Theater Performance

The students were asked to perform for the Kent Theater for the Historical Days in CS.

I think they did great! Another 3 months and they will have it perfected! I can't wait.
I messed up while filming this with my iPad. And I had to quickly find the video record and start again, hence the 2 parts. I was pretty annoyed.
Part 1 Minime is in the middle and then she moves to front left which is where she will be in Part 2.

Flannel Rag Quilt

The half way point of making one of these flannel rag quilts. I wasn't sure how it would go as I have no patience or sewing skill.

The sewing went OK, other than running out of thread and having to do the whole bobbin deal a few times. Urgh!

In the blog I read the directions they were specific as to; take the quilt to a laundromat(funny word). I have one in my village, but I was NOT going to go there, I was more than happy to risk the mess of plugging my machine before I would step a foot in there! It went fine. Drying is where I noticed the most mess. I just repeatedly cleaned the lint trap while drying the blanket. No worries!

Tutu cute bag!

The other day I found a plain black bag in my stash of dollar tree items. From there my brain got a move and I remembered something!!!

I was at a craft show a year or so ago and had seen these cute tutu looking bags.  Didn't seem like it would be toooooo terribly hard to do. (Even if you have no idea what you are doing - like me!) I figured I would go ahead and give it a try. So here is my first attempt. I need to adjust a few things if I make another. Mini me saw the bag and loved it, so I did something right! I think it took me less than 30 minutes to complete.

This is not the best photo....you really can't tell that it is a bag at all. I will have to get a picture of Mini-me carrying it, then perhaps it will look like a bag!

Here kitty, kitty, kitty, kitty, kitty.....

I found this idea on line somewhere to make a cat toy our of a kleenex box and toilet paper tubes. No problem, I have many of those around here. I put that buggar together no problem filled the tubes with treats and tied it to a chair. This is how it went down....

Here are the tubes with the treats
Here is the king, Bugsy, he doesn't care about the treats, he want to be on the chair.
Lefty (Lou) getting those treats, you can see Poncho looking
And now Poncho (Pooch) is curious
And she goes in with her "tan pointer"
She pulled one out
And she is back looking to see if there is something else, she hates those treats. HEHEE!
Silly Fat Pooch, nothing for you.

Well it was a fun 5 minutes for me. Easily entertained by these goofballs.

"...the best kind of Sneetch on the beaches"

Friday is the opening of the March is reading month and what better way to kick it off? Dress up like a Dr. Seuss character!

Now you know that most folks pick the Cat in Hat or Thing 1 and Thing 2, but not this girl! OH NO!!

May I present, my very own STAR BELLIED SNEETCH!!!!

Here she is....and now the tedious process of making this costume.

Here is the finished Sneetch once more....
Ignore the socks, haha!
I think I may do some black lines across the shirt to make it a bit more like the ones in the book. It is hard to see her little hair piece - the black fluffy floof, but it is up there!

Here is the completed look - this is at school on the day of the event.

Dancing....hot mess? Or not?...

Here is the first 1 minute of Mini me's hip hop dance rehearsal....

Keep in mind she started class in September, not sure when they actual came up with the choreography and song....
Fun non the less...

100th Day of School

This is a big deal for the younger children. Here is what I did for last year's teacher...

This is a cute candy jar that I found on the web. You can see the post that I followed here.

This is what mini me did for her 100 items she had to bring to school.

This year I am not sure what we will do, if anything. Had a great idea for a shirt, but mini me is over it. She isn't wearing anything that isn't cool. She's in Kindergarten now. Amazing how fast they grow and change. I would have thought I had a few more years before she had her own style and opinion, but I was wrong....

Butterfly Card

Stampendous Jumbo Butterfly Stamp
Technique Tuesday Sentiment
Inkadinkado Script Stamp

I used DCWV CREAMY card stock for the hot pink card and yellow.
I embossed with Ranger clear for the background on the card. For the butterfly I embossed with Ranger holograph. I used chalk to color the butterfly. I wasn't happy with how it looked after the chalking(I pretty much covered the glitter embossing and most of it was rubbed off). I then went over it with a Martha Stewart glitter pen. For the body I used some glossy accent. I used the Martha Stewart Ribbon Loop punch for my yellow strip. I stamped my sentiment with Staz On Jet Black. I rounded the corners with crop-a-dile.

Almost Valentine's Day

I will show you a few things that have been done around here in honor of the day of LOVE!

Found this on Pinterest Valentine Bag this is the blog I checked out for it.

I follow www.kerryspapercrafts.com, she always has amazing ideas, you can
check out her site for tutorial and videos on tons of great ideas.

The cute owl was the Valentine that mini me and I mass produced for her class.
Owl Valentine is the post I followed for that
Next to it is a shadow box frame that I cut a piece of paper and taped it to the back, tied some ribbon around and found loose hearts to fill it with. I am not sure where any of it came it from, I made this a few years ago.
OH WHAT IS THAT BEHIND THE PICTURE???? Well it is a basket of red items, a teacher gift.

Paperclip in the Valentine theme, maybe a gift for the Librarian?!

Nothing much here. I recycled a glass jar and put some kisses in, covered it
with valentine print material and tied a bow. Easy.
